A bill being debated by the U.S. House would force Oklahoma to make extensive changes to its election system that could create security risks and unreasonable demands on county election boards, Oklahoma’s top election official said Wednesday.
“Oklahoma’s election system is uniform, fair, secure, accurate and fast,” state Election Board Secretary Paul Ziriax said.

Oklahoma conducts its elections with paper ballots, but its failure to require postelection audits leaves the state open to undetected hacking and other Election Day problems. Oklahoma also allows voters stationed or living overseas to return voted ballots electronically, a practice that election security experts say is notoriously insecure.
